PIPELINE &
PROPRIETARY TOOLS

ILM feature a very deliberate & technical pipeline. Proprietary software aids in merging bracketed HDRI’s captured on set which are manually stitched into ‘latlong’ images suitable for spherical wrapping. Locations were solved for HDRI & reference footage & using projection methods HDR’s were mapped back onto lidar geometry to achieve correct set illumination.

JAFAR’S STUDY
SETUP

One of the larger shots taking place in Jafar’s Study featured Iago flying through two areas & landing on the other side of the building. This shot required four HDRI’s to be solved & projected onto lidar geometry to accurately match set lighting. 30 lights were extracted & matched to their respective locations, including interactive fire lights using seamless loops.

WHOLE NEW WORLD &
JAFAR’S COURTYARD OPTIMISATION

While the ‘Whole New World’ sequence had a mixture of live-action & fully CG shots I worked on, the finale sequence in Jafar’s Courtyard was a little more involved. Being an early adopting shot lighter I tested setups & provided feedback in conjunction with potential tweaks. Resulting optimisations reduced render time by more than half while retaining the original look.

TESTIMONIALS &
TRAILERS

I had the pleasure to work with Domenick on Aladdin and Terminator : Dark Fate at ILM. Domenick is not only a great team player, he is also fully dedicated to his work, helped by technical and artistic skills that made him one of the corner stones in our team. As a supervisor, it was really priceless for me to be able to count on him, knowing that any assigned task would go through and get delivered properly regardless of the challenge this would represent. On Terminator : Dark Fate, Domenick stepped up with some sequence lead responsibilities and this was a real success, for him as well as for the team. I look forward to work with him again.
