LEADING A TEAM
& WORKFLOW SETUP

Thunder Force marked the start of my official ‘Lead Lighting TD’ title. I created sequence setups & supported artists in day-to-day technical & creative solutions. I developed Nuke gizmos & templates, distributed facility-wide to enable efficient compositing within the lighting department. Phase one’s template consisted of set re-creation for approval, followed by phase two’s template for actual shot lighting.

TOOL
DEVELOPMENT

I continued development of the projection tool, adding three layered spherical projections in addition to a layered camera projection. The latter automatically generated card geometry with a variable distance offset & overscan options. Shadow map overlay capabilities were later added, aiding in correct bounce values. I demonstrated the tool benefits to supes, leads & artists.

IMPROVED
IMPLEMENTATIONS

Projections featured two modes; one material per object with alpha bounds & modifiable falloff, while mode two allowed spherical projections to be assigned to specific geometry. Solves could be queried & performed via a dropdown list ensuring a smooth setup. During this project I learned a great deal from our Technical Director, which enabled growth from both a scripting & Renderman perspective.
